Free agency has wound down for the most part, but the Las Vegas Raiders can still find value in the free agents who are still available.

The Raiders could stand to upgrade their depth at the edge position, as this has not been a strong position for them over the last couple seasons. The Raiders have the second-fewest sacks in the NFL in the last two seasons with only 62.

Maxx Crosby is great, but opposite him is Chandler Jones, who had his fair share of struggles in his first year as a Raider. Behind those two, the depth is lacking. General Manager Dave Ziegler could add to this position with a quality player on an inexpensive deal.

One player who could fit that role is former Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans edge rusher Bud Dupree, who has had a productive career as a former first-round pick.

Let’s look at Dupree and see if he would be a good fit in the Silver and Black.

Dupree was selected with the 22nd overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Steelers out of Kentucky. In his time in Pittsburgh, Dupree recorded 231 tackles, 54 tackles for losses and 39.5 sacks, including a productive 2019 season where he recorded 11.5 sacks.

Signed with the Titans in 2021, Dupree posted 35 tackles, eight tackles for losses, and seven sacks. He has not been the productive player he once was in the last couple of seasons, but could benefit from a change of scenery and a smaller role.

Dupree is 30 years old and hasn’t played his best football lately, so it likely wouldn’t break the bank to add him to the roster in a rotational pass-rushing role. He could be a productive player as a depth piece, however, and could provide quality play for the Raiders in a position that needs it.

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period began at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15.

The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this offseason.
