As the Las Vegas Raiders officially cut ties with longtime franchise quarterback Derek Carr, they will now consider who will replace him under center.

Once they do that, they can start thinking about weapons around that new quarterback. There are already three very good ones in place in wide receivers Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow and tight end Darren Waller. Not to mention the likelihood of star running back Josh Jacobs back in the fold.

However, you can never have too many weapons in this league, and the Raiders might want to add to their wide receiver room. Mack Hollins is a free agent, and they might look to move on from him and upgrade at that position.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard is set to hit the open market, and the Raiders might look to make 2023 the second consecutive year they steal a receiver from the Packers. The 6-5 227-pound target could be an option for whoever the Raiders bring in as their new franchise quarterback.

Let’s look closely at Lazard’s career and see if he would fit in the Silver and Black.

Lazard was not selected in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Iowa State after having an excellent career for the Cyclones. He signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent but was signed by the Packers off the Jaguars’ practice squad.

Lazard carved out a role in 2020 as Aaron Rodgers’ No. 2 wide receiver, catching 33 passes for 451 yards and three touchdowns. He had an excellent playoff run that season as well.

In 2022, Lazard recorded career bests in receptions with 60 and receiving yards with 788. He stepped into the No. 1 wide receiver role after Davante Adams was traded to the Raiders in the previous offseason.

Lazard is an outstanding player, and the Raiders would love his talents, but adding another receiver who has familiarity with Aaron Rodgers would be an underlying reason for bringing him in. Lazard will likely command a larger contract but might sign for cheaper if it means Rodgers heads to Las Vegas.
