The Las Vegas Raiders are evaluating the free agent market, looking for players they can add to the roster to help them return to the playoffs.

The Raiders need to upgrade their defense, and one level they need to address is the secondary. They specifically need help at the cornerback position, as Rock Ya-Sin, Sidney Jones, and Anthony Averett are all free agents.

The Raiders ranked 29th in the league in passing yards allowed this season, so they must improve the secondary to be a contender in the AFC. One player who can help them at that position is Atlanta Falcons defensive back, Isaiah Oliver.

Oliver is entering free agency after a solid season in Atlanta. He has dealt with some underwhelming play and injury-riddled seasons but improved as he moved to the slot.

Let’s look at Oliver’s career and see if he would fit in the Silver and Black.

Oliver was drafted in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Falcons out of Colorado. He posted solid numbers in his rookie season with 23 tackles, seven passes defended, and an interception.

He struggled for a couple of seasons as an outside corner, but after defensive coordinator, Dean Pees was hired, he could unlock a good level of play as he moved to the nickel position. He tore his ACL after just four games in the 2021 season.

He returned in the 2022 season after being re-signed to a one-year deal, posting 37 tackles, three tackles for loss, seven passes defended, a sack, and an interception.

Oliver once again hits free agency and could look for a bigger role with another team after only starting five games last season. The Raiders could provide him a bigger role, as they will have open spots in the secondary.

Oliver may be looking for a multi-year contract, and General Manager Dave Ziegler can afford to give him one. If the Raiders are looking for a physical, rangy corner with solid size, Isaiah Oliver could fit their system well.

The NFL Scouting Combine is Feb. 28-March 6, 2023, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. March 7, 2023, before 4 p.m. EST, is the club's deadline to designate Franchise or Transition Players.

March 13-15 is the free agent negotiation period. During that time, starting at 12 p.m. EDT on March 13 and ending at 3:59:59 p.m. EDT on March 15, clubs are permitted to contact and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2022 Player Contracts at 4 p.m EDT on March 15.

The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period begins at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15. The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this season.
