Josh McDaniels on Linebacker Robert Spillane

In this story:
Last week against the Los Angeles Rams in the preseason, one defensive player on the Las Vegas Raiders defense played for the first time in the Silver and Black uniform.
That defensive player is linebacker Robert Spillane.
Spillane signed with the Raiders during the offseason after spending four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The fifth-year veteran played a few snaps on the Raiders' defense against the Rams in week two of the preseason. He finished the game with two tackles, one very impressive.
Coach Josh McDaniels had the chance to share his thoughts on the newly acquired linebacker for the Raiders defense..
"He's another guy who we've added that's all football and loves the game, loves all the things that go into being good at the game, which was a point of emphasis for us this year," McDaniels said. "The conversation with Rob [Robert Spillane] is always about football, how to improve, how to get the defense to play better, do things better as a unit, and this guy's a physical player. He's very bright, and he's been huge in terms of connecting our whole group out there on the field when he's been out there. So, he's great communicator, knows his assignments, generally is always around the ball and adds a level of physicality and dependability to us. So, I can't say enough good things about Robert."
Spillane has played a total of 50 NFL games. He has 191 career tackles, three total sacks, and one interception as a linebacker.
With a few more weeks until the Raiders officially kick off against the Denver Broncos in Week 1 of the 2023-24 NFL season, eyes will be on Spillane as he will continue to contribute and be a key factor on the Raiders' defense.
Spillane has had an immediate impact on the Raiders, matching the intensity of a Maxx Crosby; he has brought toughness and reliability back to the Silver and Black defense.
The Silver and Black return to preseason action when they play the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 8 p.m. EDT/5 p.m. PDT.
