Josh McDaniels Shares the Latest on RB Josh Jacobs

In this story:
Raiders Today editor and published Hondo S. Carpenter, Sr., has reported for months that Josh Jacobs and the Las Vegas Raiders wouldn't get a long-term deal, that the Silver and Black would franchise tag him, and he would be back for the regular season.
Everything he has said has come true as of now.
There is still no timetable for when the Raiders' star running back, Josh Jacobs, will return to the Silver and Black.
The Raiders used their franchise tag this offseason on the All-Pro running back, who was the NFL's leading rusher in 2022.
During a virtual Zoom meeting, Coach Josh McDaniels gave the latest on the Jacobs situation to the media on Sunday, Aug. 20.
"I don't have any new news on JJ [Josh Jacobs]," McDaniels said. "I mean, I would say I think that it's important for every player -- this is the National Football League, so it's not easy to go out there and just play games and do it at the speed and level that you want to do it at, unless you've really kind of had enough opportunity to get yourself ready to do that. We've talked all year to our team about nothing carries over from one year to the next. You have to re-establish your individual level of performance and collectively as a unit, and ultimately as a team we have to establish and re-establish ourselves in terms of what we're going to be about. So, whether it would be JJ or somebody else, it's the same thing. Everybody's got to have an opportunity to do that, get re-acclimated to the pace, the speed of things. But again, I have no new information on the whole situation."
Even without Jacobs, the Raiders running back room has been stepping up. Running backs like Zamir White and Ameer Abdullah have had opportunities this training camp and preseason to show they have what it takes to start running back in the NFL. The two running backs look to have more playing time with a few weeks left of Raiders training camp and the Raiders' final preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Silver and Black return to preseason action when they play the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 8 p.m. EDT/5 p.m. PDT.
