Raiders Flash Glimpses of Offensive Potential

The Las Vegas Raiders' offense had arguably its best game of the season against the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. While it wasn't pretty, Las Vegas had success in multiple areas where it struggled on offense this season.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the Raiders did an excellent job of spreading the ball around to their offensive weapons on Monday night, keeping the Packers off-balance all game.

Garoppolo targeted nine pass-catchers, completing passes to seven of them for a total of 208 yards.

"I think it [spreading the ball around] has to happen when they put so much attention on Davante [Adams] and Josh [Jacobs], and they definitely gave their fair share of attention to Tae," Raiders' Head Coach Josh McDaniels said."

For the first time this season, the Raiders made it a point to get the ball into the hands of some of their lesser-known yet talented receiving options.

"And then [Green Bay] had some things where they were down there near the box with JJ," McDaniels said. "So, I think the tight ends got into the game's rhythm a little bit yesterday early. "Tre [Tucker], DeAndre [Carter], and Hunter [Renfrow] made some plays at different times during the course of the game."

The Raiders entered the season with one of the deeper wide receiver corps in the NFL. Monday night showed just how much opening the playbook and using as many options as possible can help the Raiders extend drives, limit turnovers and give their budding defense a rest.

"We have a lot of faith and confidence in all our skill players," McDaniels said. "So, when they're out there, we have no problem throwing them the ball or attempting to get it to them. I thought, for the most part we tried to take what was given to us as opposed to forcing it somewhere, so the ball got distributed to a number of different people and I think that was the reason."

No matter how a season starts, good teams get better as the season goes on. That has been the case for Las Vegas' defense so far. If the offense can use the next few winnable games to build upon their victory over the Packers, the Raiders could find themselves battling for a wild card spot.

The Silver and Black will stay home at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas next week to play the New England Patriots on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 4:05 p.m. EDT/1:05 p.m. PDT.
