Garoppolo Closing Door With 49ers One Last Time

In this story:
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has the unique opportunity of getting some closure with his former team, the San Francisco 49ers.
Garoppolo, who spent the last six seasons in San Francisco, has been able to engage with old teammates and coaches through joint practice.
"It was fun, it was fun," the veteran quarterback told reporters after Thursday's joint practice. "First play, Dre [Greenlaw] was talking, he got things going right away, but those are my brothers. I love those guys. So, we had a good time out there competing."
Garoppolo had the advantage of seeing looks from a defense he's been familiar with for years.
"I mean, obviously some new guys here and there, but for the most part, it was the same guys I was going against last year," Garoppolo said. "Fred [Warner] running the show and everything, that D-line is still damn good. So, it's a talented group, but I thought we held our own today."
Garoppolo's final days in San Francisco served as somewhat of a passing-of-the-torch moment, as then rookie quarterback Brock Purdy rose to the occasion and helped lead the 49ers all the way to the NFC championship game.
The two were able to catch up at Thursday's practice.
"Brock [Purdy] was a cool dude on and off the field," Garoppolo said. "As a rookie, he was pretty quiet off the get go, but he started to open up towards the end, especially once he started playing. We got to talk it up a little bit out there today. It sounds like he was doing good."
Garoppolo ultimately played 57 games for San Francisco.
After winning two Super Bowl titles in New England, the quarterback would be part of three trips to the NFC championship game, two of which he led himself.
Garoppolo led San Francisco to one Super Bowl appearance, where he and the team would come up short against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
