It's been a long time coming, but new Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was finally able to take the field as a practice participant with the Silver and Black on Wednesday.

For the veteran quarterback, it's the third time in his career he's had to become acclimated with a new team.

Garoppolo told reporters on Wednesday that he's always nervous when taking the field with a new club for the first time.

"I like that feeling, though," Garoppolo said. "It means it means something to you. I don't know, you care about what you're doing. And it was really cool, just getting out there with the guys, trying to get into that rhythm, and a lot of new stuff for me, but yeah, I enjoyed it today. It was fun."

Garoppolo suffered a season-ending broken foot with the San Francisco 49ers last season.

While he had not practiced in any organized team activities before Wednesday, Garoppolo has still built some familiarity with his new receivers.

"We've gotten some good reps over the summer," he said. "Training camp, I think, will only get better and better as we go. But, yeah, I mean, running routes on air is one thing, but once you get out there with a defense against you and you really can see what guys can do and can't do, and they can see the same with me, I think that's when you really start to build your chemistry. That's what we're trying to do, man. I thought we had a pretty good day today. A couple here and there that we could have hit a little better, but overall, I thought it was pretty good."

Garoppolo signed a three-year, $72.75 million contract with the Raiders in March. He passed for 2,437 yards and 16 touchdowns in only 11 games last season.

Garoppolo is a two-time Super Bowl champion from his days with Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels in New England.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
