No Limitations Were Placed on Josh Jacobs in Week 1

In this story:
Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro running back Josh Jacobs didn't get much of a break in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos after missing all of training camp and preseason.
The fifth-year Raider played 47 offensive snaps on Sunday, right around his average from last season (48.3 per game).
But Jacobs, who was coming off a career 2022 season, wanted to play.
"It was an interesting game because I think he played in the teens in the first half and it was like, normally you'd like your play count to be a little higher," Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels said when he addressed the media in a virtual press conference Monday. "So, just by the nature of how the game went -- I didn't think we would be able to push it to 65 or 70 -- but because we were so low in the play count in the first half, I felt like we would just let him kind of determine how he felt as he went into the second half. So, he's a football player, and he wants to play football.
"So, we love having him out there. Again, there's going to be things that we're going to see. Nobody's more critical on his own performance than JJ. So, he'll see things that he can do better, and he'll work really hard at improving, as will our team. So, I was not surprised that he was OK to do it. And like I said, the game was a little strange in that regard."
Jacobs finished Sunday's game with 48 rushing yards and 23 receiving yards on two receptions.
It was the two-time Pro Bowler's first game of any sort since last season, a campaign in which he led the league in rushing yards with 1,653, rushing yards per game at 97.2, and yards from scrimmage with 2,053. He also finished second in rushing attempts with 340.
The Silver and Black remain on the road next week as they travel to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 1:05 p.m. EDT/10:05 a.m. PDT.
