The Las Vegas Raiders will start quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on Monday night against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit. Garoppolo missed his second game of the season last week against the Chicago Bears because of a back injury.

Garoppolo returned to practice this week as the Raiders prepared for a second consecutive road game. He and the Las Vegas offense hope to get things going.

Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels is eager to see his starting quarterback return. Las Vegas' offense needs better play from the quarterback position for McDaniels' system to be as effective as possible.

"Yeah, I think he's got a little pep in his step," McDaniels said. "Again, he's much the same as everybody else is. He didn't play last week, but I think he wants to get us headed in the right direction and start doing some things better that we haven't been doing as well.

"But it's good leadership, good energy at practice, good execution. Working with everybody across the board, and just really trying to put our focus where it needs to be and have good days and stack them this week and hopefully finish with a good one today in the red zone, some of our work down there and in the scoring area."

Garoppolo acknowledged that he and the offense are enduring a few growing pains in their first season together.

"I mean, that never makes it easy, going through what you just said, but it's our job to fix it and get it right," Garoppolo said. "So, what will happen this week and next week? I don't know. I don't have an exact answer for you. But I mean, we're trying everything we can.

"It's like I said, we have a group in there that's willing to do it, go through the hard stuff, go through the growing pains together and that's what it takes. It's not going to come easy to us, but we know what we've signed up for."

A new quarterback coming off an injury, playing with a new team whose starting running back missed the entire preseason, is expected to have a few kinks to work out. Las Vegas, however, needs Garoppolo to shorten the learning curve if they hope to turn the season around.

The Silver and Black will stay on the road to take on the Detroit Lions on Monday night, Oct. 30, at 8:15 p.m. EDT/5:15 p.m. PDT.
