The McDaniels-Garoppolo Bond Picks Back up Years Later

In this story:
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was out on the field for an organized practice today with his former offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels, for the first time since 2017.
The two were together for three seasons in New England, where McDaniels served as one of Garoppolo's first introductory guides in the National Football League.
Now, they're back together, each of them in promoted roles since their days with the Patriots.
"Josh, he taught me the pro game pretty much when I was a rookie and just the first couple of years in the league," Garoppolo told media members on Wednesday. "So, he really acclimated me to this league and yeah, everything I kind of knew came from Josh and the Patriot days. And we're kind of just trying to get back to that, man. Trying to build that chemistry. He's calling plays out there for me, trying to get in my ear so that we can see the same picture and things like that. I thought we had a good first day, but we're going in the right direction."
That collaboration is something Garoppolo truly admires.
"It was awesome, man," Garoppolo said. "I always saw Josh [McDaniels] and Tom [Brady] do that back in New England. I thought it was really cool. That’s just smart football when the play caller and the quarterback are working together like that. And yeah, it was a really cool experience. It felt good to get back into that. Just putting your two cents in as a quarterback and certain plays that you'd like in a certain offense. It's new to Josh and new to me, and we're just trying to make it all work. But yeah, it's been really cool. I've enjoyed the process with him."
Garoppolo and McDaniels won two Super Bowl titles together in New England, with McDaniels, of course, having ultimately won six during his time with the Patriots.
The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
