Another Week of Unsuccessful Rushing for the Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders were unable to get the run game going on Sunday, a week after posting only 61 rushing yards against the Denver Broncos.

Despite emphasis being placed on getting plays on the ground back to the level the team expects, Las Vegas finished Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills with a mere 55 rushing yards, including minus-two yards for the league's reigning rushing champion, running back Josh Jacobs.

Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels gave his best rationale as to why his team was unable to make things happen on the ground yet again.

"We're going to have to do a better job, obviously," McDaniels told the media after the Raiders' 38-10 loss. "You know what I mean? So, there are some plays where maybe they end up putting another man down there, but we faced that all last year, too. I mean they put another guy down in the box many times against us last year as well.

"So, we're going to need to take a look at what we're doing, we're going to need to take a look at how we're doing it, and no matter what we do, we're going to have to be more productive than what we've done. So, we can't really get ourselves started in the running game, and once you lose control of the line of scrimmage, it's difficult to have control of the game. So, you know, it's not a good way to play on the road."

McDaniels said there really was not anything Buffalo did schematically up front that the offensive line was not prepared for.

"Like I said, they've got good players, and they didn't line up in a new front, they didn't play a new defense," McDaniels said. "You know what I mean? So, again, I'll have to take a look at the film to see if they were doing anything subtly different, but we've got to be able to block people and get the runner started. I thought a lot of times, we couldn't even get him to the line of scrimmage without being touched. So, again, I take responsibility for all of that and I'm going to have to do a better job of figuring out what we need to do to get JJ [Jacobs] going."

The Silver and Black return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8:20 p.m. EDT/5:20 p.m. PDT.
