The Las Vegas Raiders are gearing up for what seems to be an improved Denver Broncos squad in Week 1.

After a solid offseason that included the addition of veteran Coach Sean Payton, the Broncos are expected to be a team that yet again is able to compete within a very competitive AFC West.

When going into Week 1, there's only so much a coach can look for in terms of preparation. With a team like Denver, that can be tricky.

Knowing it won't be the same team you faced last year, you might not want to rely heavily on last year's tape. But knowing a former Super Bowl winning coach in Payton ran a successful system with the New Orleans Saints for so many years, you have to account for how much of that evaluation should go into your prep as well.

"That's one of the things about this day that just is so different," Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels said when he addressed the media Wednesday. "That's because you could utilize a lot of tape to prepare, and there's probably a point where you're overdoing it. Going back so far that now you're chasing ghosts. And at some point, you got to cut that off. But yeah, I mean look, Sean's had a long history in this league of success everywhere he's been. And obviously in New Orleans.

"So, he's a great coach. His teams are always well-prepared. They play physical and tough. They're disciplined. They've taken care of the ball; they don't beat themselves. They're really good in situational football. So, that's what I'm expecting.

"So, I think the biggest thing for us, regardless of how far back we've gone, is what are we going to do? And how comfortable are we with what we're going to do in each phase of the game? And so, our focus will remain there this week, and like I said, you go in with a certain plan and an idea of what you want to do to try to play the game. And usually, there's some version of an adjustment that you're going to make based on how it's going and what you're seeing on the other side."

The Silver and Black open the regular season at the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 10, at 4:25 p.m. EDT/1:25 p.m. PDT.
