McDaniels is Familiar With Process of Drafting a QB

The Las Vegas Raiders have a big decision to make regarding choosing their next franchise quarterback.

Coach Josh McDaniels and General Manager Dave Ziegler recently made it clear at the NFL Combine that they are open to having their next QB1 be a prospect in this year's NFL Draft.

This decision is nothing new to McDaniels, who drafted former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft when McDaniels entered his second season as head coach of the Denver Broncos.

Tebow would eventually become Denver's primary quarterback the season after McDaniels, and the Broncos parted ways.

"I think you just got to -- you know, you got to go through your process and evaluate the players that are available to you in every avenue, you know?" McDaniels said at the NFL Combine on Tuesday. "And so, whether that's a guy that's, you know, on our roster -- or, you know, still on our roster today as Jarrett Stidham, evaluating that opportunity, to potential free agency options, to the draft. And so, there's so many avenues to acquire players now. You know, I think it's just do our due diligence, try to do our work, get it in, and make the smartest decision for our football team. I think that's what we're going to try to do every day."

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. March 7, 2023, before 4 p.m. EST, is the club's deadline to designate Franchise or Transition Players.

March 13-15 is the free agent negotiation period. Starting at 12 p.m. EDT on March 13 and ending at 3:59:59 p.m. EDT on March 15, clubs are permitted to contact and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2022 Player Contracts at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15.

The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period begins at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15. The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this season.
