On Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders will be looking to get back into the win column against their AFC West rivals, the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Raiders come into this game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas hoping to change their recent fortunes against the Chiefs, as they have not often beaten them in several seasons.

The Chiefs have been playing well this season, but not at their usual level. The Raiders, playing inspired football under Interim Coach Antonio Pierce, have a chance to catch the Chiefs off guard in this one.

The Chiefs have struggled this season because they do not have a genuine threat at wide receiver room. Other than, tight end Travis Kelce, no player has truly separated himself as a player defensive coordinators need to focus heavily on.

Wide receiver Rashee Rice has had a promising rookie season, but coaches are not yet game-planning to stop him. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has only one truly reliable weapon in the passing game, and it’s Kelce.

This is a chance for the Raiders’ secondary to have a big game. Their cornerbacks and safeties can be the difference in this one, making plays on the ball and making the game uncomfortable for Mahomes.

Both of the Raiders’ starting safeties, Tre’von Moehrig and Marcus Epps, were limited in practice with injuries this week, but if they are able to go, they could be able to make a big impact against a Chiefs’ passing game that is struggling.

This game could be a chance for rookie cornerback Jakorian Bennett to break out. He did not record a statistic against the Miami Dolphins last week, but will not have to see a player like either Tyreek Hill or Jaylen Waddle.

Cornerbacks Marcus Peters and Nate Hobbs have a chance to set the tone for the rest of the secondary. Peters is a former All-Pro, and Hobbs has played well since returning from injury.

Of course, the Raiders’ secondary will need their defensive line to play well. Complementary football between the defensive line and the secondary is crucial because if the defensive line is not getting after the quarterback, the secondary will be left to cover receivers for a significant amount of time.

This is especially difficult against Mahomes, who is excellent at improvising. Defensive end Maxx Crosby and his teammates have to make Mahomes uncomfortable.

The Chiefs have struggled to move the ball in the second half of games this season, something the Raiders need to take advantage of. This can come to fruition if their secondary is shutting down the Chiefs’ wide receivers.

The Silver and Black will return home this week to celebrate Thanksgiving and take on their AFC West rival, the Kansas City Chiefs, on Sunday, November 26, at 4:25 p.m. EST/1:25 p.m. PST.
