Raiders Still Need to Be on High Alert Vs. Mac Jones

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones has struggled as of late, but the Las Vegas Raiders are anticipating his best.

The Las Vegas Raiders did a solid job containing Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love on Monday night. That same intensity must be sustained for them to be successful on Sunday against the New England Patriots.

While Patriots quarterback Mac Jones' performances have declined with each passing game this season, the Raiders know they need to be prepared for that same young quarterback who made the Pro Bowl in his first NFL season.

Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels was Jones' offensive coordinator during that rookie campaign, and he knows as well as anyone what the former first-round pick can bring to the table.

"He's [Jones] a very talented player," McDaniels told reporters on Wednesday. "Accuracy has always been a huge part of his game, touch, anticipation. He has all those things at a very high level. 

"They've battled the same bug we've battled honestly, with the turnovers and losing opportunities through change of possession. So, I'm sure that's something that they're going to work hard at limiting and getting rid of, and it's the same thing we're talking about. But this is a guy who's a very capable passer in every situation. 

"He's played big in big games. He's battled against really good teams, made some high-level throws and hung in there. He's very tough in the pocket, gets hit and gets right up, and goes to the next play. 

"So, I have a lot of respect for him, a lot of admiration for what he did when I was there. It'll be a big challenge for us this week."

Jones has passed for 1,008 yards and five touchdowns with six interceptions through five games this season. That ties him for second in the league in interceptions, with Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo leading with seven.

Jones has thrown a league-leading three pick-sixes.

The young quarterback is in his third NFL season and was selected by New England with the 15th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Alabama.

The Silver and Black will stay home at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to play the New England Patriots on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 4:05 p.m. EDT/1:05 p.m. PDT.
