Connections are everything in the NFL.

They can determine where a player wants to play, who they want to play with, and ultimately, what can be the right fit.

When new Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Marcus Peters was looking at where he wanted to play this season, his bond with Raiders Pro Bowl defensive end Maxx Crosby was a big factor in his decision to move to Sin City.

"Man, when I kind of knew Baltimore wasn't going to happen -- me and Maxx got the same agent and stuff -- you kind of get a feel of who you want to play with," Peters told reporters on Saturday. "And Maxx [is] one of them dudes that you want to play with. He leaves it all on the field, and it shows in his play, and it shows in his effort, and it shows in his leadership. You feel me? He comes to work every day ready to work, and that's unique. There's only a certain amount of people who've got that."

The connection between the two defensive stars goes back to when Crosby was just starting out in the league.

"He's an alpha," Crosby said when he spoke to the media on July 26. "I love Marcus. I've known him since my rookie year, we got the same agent. So, Marcus is my guy. Marshawn's [Lynch] his cousin. So, yeah, Marcus is like family. So I love Marcus. He brings that attitude that we need in the secondary, and I can't wait to see him get out there and keep competing because he's a dog, for sure."

Peters enters his eighth NFL season. He most recently was a member of the Baltimore Ravens, with whom he played for the last two-plus seasons.

Peters came into the league as a first-round pick selected by the Kansas City Chiefs.

In his seven seasons so far, the veteran has made three Pro Bowl trips and has two first-team All-Pro selections.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
