Two Raiders Shine Against Their Former Team

Jakobi Meyers and Brian Hoyer shine in the Raiders' 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots.

The Las Vegas Raiders finished the job with a 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday. The Raiders are .500 with a 3-3 record and are on a two-game winning streak.

Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels is 3-0 in his career against the Patriots.

Two Raiders players shined against their former team, the Patriots. Those Raiders are wide receiver Jakobi Meyers and quarterback Brian Hoyer.

On Monday night, Meyers also shined against the Packers. On Sunday against the Patriots, he picked up right where he left off. Meyers finished the game against the Patriots with six receptions for 61 yards and the only touchdown for the Raiders. 

Meyers has 30 receptions for 335 yards and four touchdowns this season, making him one of the key utilities for the Silver and Black offense. 

Meyers surpassed Danny Amendola on Sunday for the fifth most receptions by an undrafted free agent in his first 65 career NFL games.

One big takeaway from the Raiders game against the Patriots was quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's injury. Garoppolo left the game with a back injury late in the second quarter and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

However, backup quarterback Hoyer stepped in for the injured Garoppolo in the second half and finished the game. Hoyer spent a total of nine seasons with the Patriots. 

Hoyer shared with the media on how familiar he was with the Patriots, which ultimately helped him throughout the game.

"Having been there for the last seven years, I know a lot of times on third down they want to take away your best players and for us that would be Davante [Adams] and Jakobi [Meyers] and that was something we were keen in on," Hoyer said. "It's something that I've seen in practice over the years a lot of times and so I was just waiting to see, were they going to to do that?"

Hoyer ended the game with six completions on 10 passes for 102 yards, including a 48-yard pass to rookie third round draft pick Tre Tucker.

Meyers and Hoyer stepped up against their former team and ultimately led the way for the Raiders' 21-17 win over the Patriots.

The Silver and Black will head on the road to take on the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 1:05 p.m. EDT/10:05 a.m. PDT.
