Raiders New Faces Must Assimilate Quickly

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders were one of the most active teams in the NFL this offseason when it came to free agency.
The team made 17 new signings as they look to build the team in the vision of Coach Josh McDaniels and General Manager Dave Ziegler.
Now that the team will soon begin training camp, all these new pieces will have to learn how to play with each other. This can sometimes be a difficult process for teams who bring in so many new faces.
One of the most notable things about all the free agent signings the Raiders made was that several of them are on one-year contracts. The Raiders signed these players to short term deals with hopes of getting the most out of them in the immediate future.
Now, it’s up to McDaniels and his coaching staff to put all the pieces together. When a team has so many new players, it can be challenging to get them to all fit together in a short amount of time.
There will be new contributors on both sides of the ball, and training camp will be the time to learn the playbook before the season starts. Preseason should help as well, as several players will learn their roles in those three games.
The Raiders should have a few new starters defensively, including cornerback Duke Shelley, linebacker Robert Spillane and safety Marcus Epps. With Spillane and Epps set to be in leadership roles, their jobs will be a little more difficult, as they have to learn the playbook and help others learn as well.
One thing benefiting the Raiders in this case is how many players they brought in who are familiar with McDaniels’ system offensively. Wide receivers Jakobi Meyers and Phillip Dorsett and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo are players who are expected to be major contributors and have spent time with McDaniels in the past.
Those players will assimilate quickly, and in turn help other players get there as well. It is a tough task getting so many new players on the same page, but the Raiders must do it if they want to return to the playoffs in 2023.
The Las Vegas Raiders open training camp for the entire team on July 25, 2023.
The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
