The Las Vegas Raiders are about to enter an offseason that should see them come out the other end of it looking like a very different team. As longtime franchise quarterback Derek Carr looks for a new team, the Raiders will look for a new quarterback.

While replacing Carr won’t be easy, multiple names are already being floated out as possible replacements, and General Manager Dave Ziegler can find a replacement in many ways.

Before the Raiders figure out who will replace Carr, there is another free agent they need to worry about: star running back Josh Jacobs.

Jacobs is set to hit the open market, but the Raiders might not let him get to that point. Jacobs finished the best season of his career, leading the league in rushing yards with 1,653 and scoring 12 touchdowns on the ground.

The Raiders declined Jacobs’ fifth-year option last April, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent. However, Jacobs has stated he would like to remain in Las Vegas, so there is motivation on at least one side to get a deal done.

With the likelihood of Jacobs returning to the Raiders, the new starting quarterback will have one of the best running backs in the league to lean on. Not only will he have that, but he’ll also have three excellent receiving options -- Davante Adams, Darren Waller, and Hunter Renfrow.

Adams posted another tremendous season with 1,516 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns en route to being named an All-Pro for the third consecutive season.

Along with having one of the best running backs and set of pass catchers in the league, the Raiders' new starter will also be coached by Josh McDaniels, who was instrumental in getting the best play out of legendary quarterback Tom Brady. Having him at the helm should make the transition to a new offense seamless.

While the Raiders have a tough task in replacing Derek Carr, the foundation is set to make that eventual replacement’s job much easier. With an offense full of Pro Bowlers and a coach to push all the right buttons, the Raiders could end up not skipping a beat after moving on from Carr.

The NFL Scouting Combine is Feb. 28-March 6, 2023, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. March 7, 2023, before 4 p.m. EST, is the club's deadline to designate Franchise or Transition Players.

March 13-15 is the free agent negotiation period. During that time, starting at 12 p.m. EDT on March 13 and ending at 3:59:59 p.m. EDT on March 15, clubs are permitted to contact and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2022 Player Contracts at 4 p.m EDT on March 15.

The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period begins at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15. The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this season.
