Since taking the helm, Las Vegas Raiders' Interim Coach Antonio Pierce has made it clear that for his team to succeed, the running game -- particularly Josh Jacobs -- needs to excel.

Despite the Raiders' offense finishing the first half of Sunday night's game against the New York Jets with only 33 yards on the ground, the team elected to keep giving the running game a try.

Las Vegas' determination would pay off, as the team rushed for 115 yards in the second half, as Jacobs posted a season-high 116 rushing yards.

"One of our messages early in the week that I told the team was that we need to start to impose our will," Pierce told reporters on Monday. "And the only way you can do that is by two things, right? Stopping the run on defense and running the ball on offense.

"I thought the defensive line, our guys up front, did a really excellent job against [Breece] Hall and that front, and that offensive line [and] what they wanted to do with running the ball.

"But in the second half, you saw what time it was, right? It was Josh Jacobs' time. It was hammer time.

"And you saw the energy, not only with our offensive line, our running back and our offense, but our team. It changed our whole mentality in that third quarter. And I think that's where things started to shift in our favor."

It was just the first game all season that Jacobs, the league's reigning rushing leader, ran for at least 100 yards. He did so six times last season.

Sunday's game was only the second the Raiders have rushed for 100 yards all season. The first was last week in their victory over the New York Giants.

The Silver and Black will head out on the road to South Beach to take on the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. EST/10 a.m. PST.
