Davante Adams Jumpstarts Raiders' Offense in Win

The Las Vegas Raiders got Davante Adams the ball early and often. Doing so jump-started their offense early, as Las Vegas would beat the New York Jets, 16-12.

In this story:

Earlier this season, Davante Adams shared his feelings about being more involved in the Las Vegas Raiders' offense.

Adams emphasized that he wasn't demanding to get the ball, but simply stated how much smoother the offense could run if he were more involved.

Interim Offensive Coordinator Bo Hardegree and rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell did that on Sunday night, getting Adams the ball early and often, helping ease O'Connell into the flow of the game.

O'Connell's first four passes went to Adams. Five out of O'Connell's first seven passes were to Adams, including a 42-yard completion on Las Vegas' second offensive drive.

Adams was impressed by O'Connell's performance Sunday night.

"It was impressive, man," Adams said. "He's as cool as the other side of the pillow. The dude is not a rookie. By years, he is, but by action, and like you said, the poise that he has in those type of situations, you don't see that often from a rookie quarterback.

"Like I said last week, the way he commands the huddle, the way he talks to us, the communication and confidence. He threw a pick down there early on in the game, and the way he bounced back is impressive. So, I'm glad he is our guy.

"We've got the type of team where you can do that. That's what we're down to do at this point, is to do whatever that helps this team move forward and put points on the board."

The Raiders' offense struggled at times against one of the best defenses in the league, but were still able to pull off the victory, but Adams, as always, sees room for improvement.

"So, we've got to do a better job of executing, but we love that aggression," Adams said. "We've got a lot of talent on this team, so I think the way he's going about it is perfect.

"At the end of the day, football is an imperfect game, and you've just got to win by one more point than the other team. As long as we're setting out to do it the right way, we're executing to the best of our abilities. It's not always going to be perfect, so you've just got to figure it out and do just better than the other team."

A week earlier against the New York Giants, Las Vegas' offense cruised to an easy win. On Sunday night against the New York Jets, the Raiders' offense had to battle its way to victory.

A win is a win, and Las Vegas has won two in a row. If the Raiders can find a way to win in Miami, anything is possible.

The Silver and Black will head out on the road to South Beach to take on the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m. EST/10 a.m. PST.
