The Las Vegas Raiders are preparing for the 2023 NFL Draft, doing extensive research on various prospects in this year’s class.

The team is looking to upgrade its defense wherever it can, knowing that a good defense can be the key to getting back to the playoffs and competing in the AFC West with the explosive offenses in that division.

The Raiders have added some help at the linebacker position but could continue to do so later in the draft. One player who could be available on day three is Texas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, a former safety who had a productive college career with the Longhorns.

Let’s look at Overshown and see if he would fit in the Silver and Black.

Overshown was recruited as a safety out of high school and was ranked as the No. 52 overall player in the 2018 class by 247sports.com. Overshown would eventually bulk up enough to play linebacker in his junior year.

In three years playing linebacker, Overshown posted 230 tackles, 23.5 tackles for losses, seven sacks and two interceptions. He was named First-Team All-Big 12 in 2022.

Overshown is an exciting prospect due to his athleticism at the linebacker position, possessing the speed to cover tight ends over the middle of the field and being able to chase down running backs. He also has the potential to be a productive pass rusher.

One of the biggest concerns regarding Overshown’s game is his playing weight at the professional level. He only weighs 229 pounds, one of the lightest among all draft-eligible linebackers. He also struggles to get off blocks, being taken out of plays by bigger linemen.

Overshown might need to bulk up a bit if he wants to stay at linebacker in the NFL, and if this is not possible, his ceiling may be limited. He offers some versatility due to his athleticism, and Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham might have fun with him if the Raiders select him in the later rounds.

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period began at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15.

The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this offseason.
