The NFL offseason gives the Las Vegas Raiders the chance to evaluate talent that they can add to their team through the draft and free agency to get back to the playoffs.

The NFL Scouting combine concluded last week, and the Raiders met with multiple prospects at multiple positions. These meetings give teams the chance to learn about players as people and ask them questions about who they are as football players.

One player who has met with the Raiders is Oklahoma wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr., who spoke to Mitchell Renz of Raiders Report on Friday about that meeting.

“It went pretty good,” Mims said. “It went very smooth. We were in there just talking ball, put some clips up of me at Oklahoma, asked me what I was doing on this route, why I did it, stuff like that, so just small football talk, but it went really well.”

Mims was one of the most electrifying wide receivers in college football for the last few seasons. Let’s look at his time at Oklahoma and see if he could fit in the Silver and Black.

In his career at Oklahoma, Mims caught 123 passes for 2,398 yards and 20 touchdowns. He was named First Team All-Big 12 last season and finished second in the Big 12 in receiving yards.

Mims is a smaller receiver, standing at 5-11 and weighing 183 pounds, but he can play like he’s much bigger. He is a precise route runner with great speed and strong hands. He also provides more than expected as a run blocker, although e might need to add some weight to his frame if he wants to be more than just a slot receiver at the next level.

In terms of his fit with the Raiders, Mims would essentially be playing the Hunter Renfrow role of the smaller, reliable slot receiver, so his playing time would likely be limited as long as Renfrow is healthy. While Mims is a talented receiver, his fit would be questionable, and it might be a redundant selection.

However, if Josh McDaniels believes he can utilize Mims’ skill set to its full potential, he could be a worthwhile investment solely on his high talent level.

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. March 7, 2023, before 4 p.m. EST, is the club's deadline to designate Franchise or Transition Players.

March 13-15 is the free agent negotiation period. During that time, starting at 12 p.m. EDT on March 13 and ending at 3:59:59 p.m. EDT on March 15, clubs are permitted to contact and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2022 Player Contracts at 4 p.m EDT on March 15.

The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period begins at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15. The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this season.
