Raiders NFL Draft Prospect: Julius Brents, CB, Kansas State

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders are ramping up their analysis and research of various prospects in the 2023 NFL Draft class, hoping to find the right fits for the team on and off the field.
The Raiders are expected to add defensive players at all levels, as they have areas they can improve all over that side of the field.
One of those areas is the cornerback position, as the Raiders don’t have many long-term answers in their defensive backfield. One player who could end up as a cornerstone at that spot is Kansas State’s Julius Brents.
Brents is a long, slender cornerback who was one of the best players on a surprising Wildcats team. Let’s look at Brents and see if he would be a good fit in the Silver and Black.
Brents committed to Iowa out of high school and spent two seasons with the Hawkeyes, but transferred to Kansas State in 2021. In his two seasons with the Wildcats, Brents totaled 94 tackles, six and a half for losses, six pass breakups, and five interceptions.
As a prospect, Brents is one of the tallest cornerbacks in this class at 6-3. He had a good NFL Scouting Combine, posting a 41.5-inch vertical and an 11-foot, 6-inch broad jump. His athleticism and physical traits jump off the tape, and he thrives as a zone corner with excellent tackling abilities.
Brents did not run the fastest 40-yard dash and tended to get beat by speedy wide receivers, so he might not always be the best one-on-one defender.
Julius Brents is expected to be a second or third-round pick, and if he makes it to pick No. 70, General Manager Dave Ziegler could consider adding the toolsy corner to handle some of the top wide receivers in the AFC West.
The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo. The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period began at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15.
The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this offseason.
