The Las Vegas Raiders are once again picking in the top 10 of the NFL Draft.

This year, they hold the seventh overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. It’s the first time they’ve had a top-10 selection in the first round since 2019, when they selected Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell. The team also added running back Josh Jacobs and safety Johnathan Abram in that first round.

It’s the 10th time the Raiders are picking in the top 10 in the last 20 years as well. Some of the notable Raiders picked in those drafts include linebacker Rolando McClain at No. 8 overall in 2010, defensive end Khalil Mack at No. 5 overall in 2014 and wide receiver Amari Cooper at No. 4 overall in 2015.

This year, Oregon cornerback Christian Gonzalez is the betting favorite to be the No. 7 overall pick in the draft. Gonzalez is 6-2, 201 pounds, has excellent cover skills and is a fluid athlete. He would be a great addition to a defensive back room that needs to add young players.

This is also the first ever first-round pick General Manager Dave Ziegler will make as head man of the Raiders, as he traded last year’s first round pick in the deal for star wide receiver Davante Adams.

After the first round, the Raiders have 11 more draft picks. For a team that needs to address a number of positions on the roster, they are in a fortunate spot.
