Breaking Down the Raiders' Offseason WR Acquisitions

In this story:
The Las Vegas Raiders have a new starting quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo, so this offseason, the team went out and added five new wide receivers to make life easier as he enters his first season with the Silver and Black.
Some of those receivers are players the current regime of General Manager Dave Ziegler and Coach Josh McDaniels have familiarity with. Because Garoppolo is familiar with McDaniels’ system, he should easily develop a rapport with those players.
Today, we will break down each new addition and see what they bring to the Silver and Black.
The Raiders signed Jakobi Meyers to a three-year, $33 million deal in March. Meyers spent time with McDaniels for the first three seasons of his career, posting career-highs in 2021 under him with 83 receptions for 866 yards. Meyers projects to be a prominent player for the Raiders’ offense, with his precise route running and sure hands.
Phillip Dorsett also spent time with McDaniels and Ziegler in New England, catching 73 passes for 881 yards and eight touchdowns in three years with the Patriots. Dorsett has blazing speed and averaged a career-best 16.2 yards per catch, and he can be a player who takes the top off of a defense.
DeAndre Carter joins the Raiders after a season with the Los Angeles Chargers. Carter provides depth at the wide receiver position and excellent value as a kick and punt returner. In his career, Carter has caught 104 passes for 1,220 yards and six touchdowns, amassing over 3,400 kick and punt return yards.
The Raiders signed Cam Sims to a one-year deal, a 6-5, big-bodied receiver who carved out a role on special teams with the Washington Commanders. Sims has caught 57 passes for 804 yards and three touchdowns in his career.
The Raiders drafted Tre Tucker with the 100th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Tucker, a smaller receiver who can run every route and wins with speed and competitiveness, will get a chance to play in the slot and outside with the Raiders.
The Raiders' wide receiver room saw an influx of new players, and now it’s up to McDaniels and Garoppolo to work with those receivers to improve the Raiders’ offense.
The Raiders' offseason workout schedule is as follows:
OTA Offseason workouts: May 22-23, May 25, May 31-June 2, June 12-15
Mandatory Minicamp: June 6-8
