OL Consistency Will Be Important for Raiders

Offensive line consistency is an overlooked element of a successful offense. Having the same five linemen for multiple years is a way to set the tone for the entire offensive unit.

General Manager Dave Ziegler and the Las Vegas Raiders understand this, as they brought back the two free agent linemen who played the most snaps on the right side of the line.

For a Raiders offense that has a new starting quarterback and running backs who might potentially be tasked with taking on a bigger workload, a steady, consistent offensive line can do wonders in taking away some of the pressure.

Kolton Miller, Dylan Parham, Andre James, Alex Bars, and Jermaine Eluemunor made up the most played offensive line grouping by the Raiders last season, and all five of those players hope to maintain consistency again in 2023.

The Raiders’ offensive line unit came into 2022 as what was expected to be one of the worst groupings in the NFL, but had a surprising season that saw them ranked as a top 10 unit at the end of the season by Pro Football Focus.

While they were not a very efficient pass blocking unit, they were much better when it came to run blocking, as evidenced by Josh Jacobs leading the league in rushing in 2022. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s best teams have been elite at running the ball, so all three phases of the offense have to be in sync for them to be efficient.

Some of the intriguing things to watch for with the Raiders’ offensive line is the continued development of Parham and the sustained consistent play from Eluemunor.

Parham is entering his second season in the league after starting 17 games as a rookie lineman, which is not an easy task. He took his expected lumps as a rookie, but the growth was evident as the season progressed.

Eluemunor was one of the more surprising players on the entire Raiders team last season. While he did commit a few too many penalties, his overall play was impressive.

It was clearly important to the Raiders to retain their offensive line, and they are likely now going to lean heavily on them for their offensive success in 2023.
