Josh McDaniels Praises Steelers' Long-Term Success

In this story:
The Pittsburgh Steelers are the standard when looking at how to win consistently in the NFL.
While the Steelers and the Las Vegas Raiders will face off in the next chapter of their historic rivalry on Sunday night, there is a great deal of respect the Silver and Black have for their opponent, particularly from Coach Josh McDaniels.
The Raiders have made it to the postseason only twice in the last 20 years, while Pittsburgh has reached the playoffs 12 times in that time, including two Super Bowl titles.
As a longtime NFL coach who has experienced plenty of winning in this league, McDaniels knows exactly how impressive it is to be in some sort of contention year after year.
"These are the kind of games -- this is what you do it for, great opponent, two great organizations," McDaniels told the media on Wednesday. "The Steelers have done it the right way for a long time. Coach [Mike] Tomlin, for 17 years, I mean he's never had a losing season. I have just so much respect for him and the program that he runs there, the way they do things, how they play, how competitive they are every week, every year.
"Our team is hard at work learning the things that they do, how they do them, and they do a lot of things well. They've got a lot of really good football players. They can win and beat you in a lot of different ways. They're physical, they're explosive in all three phases of the game. We saw that on Monday night, how they ended up kind of flipping the game around there."
While McDaniels knew success in his years as offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, he has a new task of building a winning culture as the head coach in Las Vegas.
"I mean, we all want to try to create the kind of culture and team and organization that is competitive year in and year out to compete for championships, and you have to earn that," McDaniels said. "We're still hard at work at that, and they've [the Steelers] earned it. Coach Tomlin, obviously with what he's done with organization, Omar [Khan], their whole crew, they've done it the right way for a long time, they believe in what they're doing and the results have shown that to be true.
"So for us, we're in the process of trying to get to that point. And again, you only earn it one way, and you've got to have consistent success and you've got to compete and be competitive to win and win at a high-level year in and year out. And I think they've shown that, and that's what we're working toward."
The Silver and Black return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8:20 p.m. EDT/5:20 p.m. PDT.
