Raiders Have Chance to Make Early Revenge Statement

The Las Vegas Raiders will face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3 of the 2023 season in what will be a rematch of last year's Christmas Eve game.

The Las Vegas Raiders have an opportunity to right some wrongs from last season in this upcoming 2023-24 campaign.

One of their biggest statement games will come early when the Raiders host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3, a game the club has likely had circled on its calendar since the schedule release.

The teams last met on Christmas Eve of last season. Las Vegas had just come off a momentous over against the New England Patriots that put them back in playoff contention after a heartbreaking loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14.

The Raiders entered the Week 16 game against with Pittsburgh riding a 4-1 record in its last five games, its best stretch of the season by far.

But the Raiders went on to lose by only three points, the loss adding to the list of one-possession losses for the Silver and Black last season.

Las Vegas had one last opportunity to force overtime or win the game with a final drive, but former quarterback Derek Carr would throw an interception to end all hope.

That, of course, would be Carr's last pass as a Raider, igniting weeks of turmoil for the club and its plans moving forward.

When looking back on the season, it's one of those losses that could have made the difference in the trajectory of their 2022 campaign.

But now, only three weeks into their 2023 season, the Raiders will have the perfect opportunity at revenge.

The game will also be the Raiders' home opener, giving them an advantage in morale and pride as they will be looking to kick off the season on the right foot.

It will be the Raiders' only home game in their first four weeks of the season.

The game will be a reunion for new Raiders linebacker Robert Spillane as well, as the 27-year-old spent the last four seasons in Pittsburgh.

You can bet he'll have a chip on his shoulder as well, yet another factor that could give Las Vegas an edge in the showdown.

The game is scheduled for Sept. 24 at 5:20 PT.
