Looking Back at Last Time Raiders Had 5 Primetime Games

Despite missing the playoffs last season, the Las Vegas Raiders are set to play in five primetime games in the 2023-24 campaign.

They are one of just seven teams to have such an honor, while the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Los Angeles Chargers, the Buffalo Bills, and the Dallas Cowboys, are slated for six.

It's been a while since the Raiders were represented in that many primetime games.

You would have to return to the 2017 season after they clinched a playoff berth in the 2016-17 campaign.

The Raiders, who were in Oakland then, played their first primetime game of that season on Sunday night of Week 3 when they took on the Washington Commanders (then Redskins).

Washington handed Oakland its first loss of the season, as the Silver and Black would fall to 2-1 before losing three more consecutive games.

With an opportunity to end the drought, the Raiders would host the Chiefs on Thursday night of Week 7.

Oakland defeated its biggest rival by a single point, as Raiders quarterback Derek Carr found wide receiver Michael Crabtree for a touchdown in the dying seconds of the game. The extra point was good to seal the win for Oakland and put it at 3-4.

The third primetime game came two weeks later when the Raiders went to Miami to take on the Dolphins on Sunday night.

Having dropped back to .375, a win was essential for Oakland to keep its playoff hopes alive that season.

It would do just that, besting the Dolphins by a field goal despite allowing a late drive from Miami after an interception by Carr with a little over two minutes remaining.

The Raiders were back to one game below .500.

Oakland would lose its final two primetime games, which happened to be back-to-back, Sunday of Week 15 against the Dallas Cowboys and Monday of Week 16 (Christmas Day) against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The losses were part of a four-game losing streak to end the season.
