Putting on a great performance on the field is important for NFL players, but giving back to the community off the field is an even more significant accomplishment.

Las Vegas Raiders star defensive end Maxx Crosby does both. While he is having a Defensive Player of the Year-caliber season, his work in the community is truly admirable.

Crosby was recently named the Raiders’ representative for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, given to the player who most exceptionally contributes to philanthropy in their community.

Crosby recently spoke on what it means to be the Raiders’ Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee on his podcast, The Rush with Maxx Crosby.

“It’s a special moment,” Crosby said. “I had seen on the jumbotron a ton, the Walter Payton thing, and they had it in the end zones and everything like that, so for me, being one of the 32 guys in the NFL being recognized for it is honestly incredible.

"I don’t do things with the intention to get recognized for it. I love giving back, I love doing things for other people, especially people in need, even animals like pit bulls. I have three of them; they’re my f—ing children. Every single time I get to go out there and do something special for people in the community, not just Las Vegas, but Michigan and Texas as well, it’s a big honor.

“It was dope. I was going into the tunnel, and then Sandra [Douglass Morgan], [Interim Coach Antonio Pierce] and Champ [Kelly] were all standing there. They’re like, ‘You've gotta get a picture.’ So, she got to present me the award and everything like that, so it was super dope and just a complete honor. It’s just really dope.”

Crosby is the founder of the Maxx Crosby Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting teen substance abuse intervention and several other charitable causes. The foundation was established in November of 2023. He also works with animals, rescuing homeless pit bulls and trying to find them homes.

While Crosby is excellent on the field, he is also an admirable human being off of it, and his nomination for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award is well deserved.
