What Drew Tom Telesco to the Raiders

In this story:
A new era is underway in Las Vegas.
On Wednesday, Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis introduced new General Manager Tom Telesco and now full-time head coach Antonio Pierce to the press.
Telesco has worked with four NFL franchises for over 30 years, most recently for the Los Angeles Chargers. He now comes to the other side of the AFC West rivalry to help build a winner.
Telesco and Pierce will work together to turn the Raiders into a postseason team. After so many years in the league, Telesco now has the opportunity to work for one of the most storied franchises in the NFL.
He spoke about what piqued his interest in joining the Silver and Black.
“There’s just such a storied history here and tradition,” he said. “I grew up as a kid – I was obviously a football fan, NFL fan, been in the league a long time. It would be a chance to be part of an organization with the Al Davis legacy. It’s just so exciting to have.”
Telesco also believes this team can be a winner.
“Then on top of that, you look at the resources that are here and the head coach that’s here, I think we can win. That’s why I want to be here.”
The long-time general manager revealed what he was looking for in his next job, which he coincidentally found with the Raiders.
“There’s two things I was really looking for: One was fit. I want to work with people that I like. And two, I want to win. Those two go together, that we can win and work together and really enjoy this journey because it’s a tough journey. It’s a hard job.”
“We all know the pressures that come with the job. But we can work side by side with a smile on our face and get things done. So it was two things: find the right fit and the chance to win, and that’s what they have here.”
The Raiders pair experience in the front office with a first-time head coach, and the two appear to be off to a good start at the beginning of their tenure.
From February 27 to March 4, 2024, the NFL Scouting Combine will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.
The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently hold the No. 13 overall pick.
