Raiders' Hall on Full Offseason, CB Competition

Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Tyler Hall finished last season strong after earning playing time halfway through the year.

In seven games with three starts, Hall posted 20 total tackles, two tackles for losses and four pass break ups. He also finished with an 86.3 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus.

The 2022 season was the biggest opportunity of his young career, as he played 218 snaps. Hall, an undrafted free agent out of Wyoming in 2020, played only seven snaps with the Atlanta Falcons during his rookie season.

Hall enters the 2023 season on the roster bubble, competing with several cornerbacks for spots on the 53-man roster. He addressed the media at training camp and spoke about having a full offseason under his belt as a Raider.

“Like you said, it’s comfortable being there the whole offseason,” Hall said. “I kind of got thrown in the fire coming in as a late addition trying to pick up on the installs and stuff like that. But having this whole offseason to go in and dissect our formation, plays and just executing our assignment, it’s been a real big help for my progress on this team.”

Hall is competing for playing time with other cornerbacks on the roster, and has an opportunity to increase his chances this preseason. He spoke about how he is embracing the competition.

“I would just say it’s been a healthy competition,” Hall said. “A lot of guys in our room are guys who want to prove themselves, I would say. So, it’s been a healthy competition, everybody’s learning from each other and trying to get better each day.”

The Raiders added several cornerbacks on one-year contracts, only having a few players locked up long-term at that position. The players brought in through free agency are also fighting for roster spots, so Hall has a crowded room he must separate himself from.

Cornerback is only one of the positions on the Raiders with multiple players competing for limited spots, but for Hall, he will have to build off his finish to the 2022 season and maintain that play consistently if he wants to be a Raider beyond this season.
