Tucker Proving He Belongs in Raiders' Talented WR Corps

Las Vegas Raiders rookie wide receiver Tre Tucker played his first NFL regular season game on Sunday when his team fell to the Buffalo Bills, 38-10.

While Tucker did not come away with any receptions, he did burst for a huge 34-yard gain on a jet sweep that would set up the receiving touchdown by wide receiver Davante Adams on the opening drive of the game.

Raiders Offensive Coordinator Mick Lombardi believes it's just the first of great things to come for the rookie out of Cincinnati.

"I'm really happy for that young man going out there and playing, executing his job, and playing fast, and playing free," Lombardi told reporters on Tuesday. "Any young receiver, or any young player in general, can kind of have some trouble in terms of just playing at his level of speed you see in practice. Because he gets in the game, and things are moving different and stuff, and I was really proud of the way he performed in terms of just going out there and doing his job, doing his job fast and not worrying about everything else, and just playing his game. That was really what I was most excited to see from him.

"And he made a great catch on the sideline -- it was called a penalty and then, obviously, picked up -- but he did a great job of going up and getting it and just playing fast. And you saw his speed on the speed sweep, and we got him the ball in space and he did something with it, which I was really happy with and I think the whole unit was. I'm excited to see him kind of -- you guys saw him play in the preseason and make some plays.

"So, it was really nice to see him play in this last game against a production. That young man works really hard, has fit right into the receiver room with Jakobi [Meyers], and Davante [Adams], and those guys who are grinders and really master their craft. So, he fits in very well and he's grown every week he's been here, which we've been very pleased with, and hopefully, he'll continue to do that moving forward."

Tucker was selected by the Raiders in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Silver and Black return home to Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8:20 p.m. EDT/5:20 p.m. PDT.
