Will Raiders' Youth Help or Hurt Them in 2023?

The Las Vegas Raiders have several young contributors on both sides of the ball, which can be a good and bad thing.

The Las Vegas Raiders are preparing for the 2023 NFL regular season, hoping to put a disappointing 2022 behind them.

In doing so, the Raiders revamped their roster significantly. There are expected to be several new starters on both sides of the ball, many of them much younger players.

Having a young team can be exciting. Having a look at the future of the Silver and Black in action playing at a high level gives fans a glimmer of hope for the coming years.

However, having a team with so many young contributors can also be volatile. Young players are still adjusting to the professional game and often make mistakes.

With the Raiders set to have so many young players be major contributors this season, let’s evaluate some of their young talent and see if all this youth will help or hurt the Raiders going into 2023.

Starting on offense, it is unclear whether or not running back Josh Jacobs is going to be ready to play Week 1. Second-year man Zamir White is set to see an increase in carries after barely seeing the field last season.

What White will bring to the Raiders this season is relatively unknown, since there is not any previous evidence. White was a talented player at Georgia, but it’s unclear what he will be for the Raiders.

Also offensively, Dylan Parham looks to improve on his rookie season at left guard. His progress toward the end of the season was encouraging, so it feels likely that he will continue to develop into a good interior lineman.

Defensively, the Raiders are hoping for big things from their first-round selection, Tyree Wilson. While Wilson is still working his way back from a foot injury, he is expected to be an important piece for the Raiders’ defense long-term.

Third-year players such as cornerback Nate Hobbs, linebacker Divine Deablo, and safety Tre’von Moehrig are all looking to bounce back from a season with either injuries or a regression in play. The Raiders made investments to add veteran players around them, hoping to stabilize their play and mitigate mistakes.

Overall, the Raiders have plenty of young talent on both sides of the ball that the team is excited for, optimistic that they can be pillars of the team in the future. It appears that the Raiders’ youth will be more helpful in 2023 than harmful.
