McDaniels Noticing Growth in Pass Game For Young Backs

Las Vegas Raiders second-year running backs Zamir White and Brittain Brown are improving in the pass game.

The Las Vegas Raiders have a solid mix of old and young talent in their running back room.

The focus, of course, is mainly set on the younger assets who could have a lot to offer the club down the line, starting as soon as this season.

Running backs Zamir White and Brittain Brown, two members of the Raiders' 2022 draft class, are looking to build on their rookie seasons.

That improvement will include their play in the passing game, as it is crucial that backs in today's game are well-rounded.

"The volume of things you're going to see in the NFL are different, and the volume of responsibilities that you have back there in the passing game, it's just a little different," Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels said when he addressed the media on Sunday. "You see many, many different looks and the defense tries to challenge you in a bunch of different ways and to be able to follow your rules, and do your job repeatedly the right way isn't always easy right away when you come from college. So, I see growth for sure from him [White]. 

"Brittain [Brown], the same thing. They both have improved in the passing game in both areas: catching the ball, creating some plays for themselves after they catch it, and then being able to do their job the right way and know who they have in protection and to get a body on them. So, I'm pleased with what we're seeing, and again, that'll be challenged next week and the next few weeks here with some joint practices, which will be good. But both guys are working extremely hard. Zamir certainly has made progress."

White registered only 70 rushing yards last season, with no receiving targets.

Brown did not play a single offensive snap, seeing the field only for 61 special teams plays.

White was taken in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, while Brown was selected in the seventh.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
