Expectations are Raised for Zamir White in Year 2

Las Vegas Raiders second-year running back Zamir White could have a more significant role in Year 2.

With star running back Josh Jacobs choosing not to attend training camp, the focus temporarily shifts to the rest of the running back room, with weeks to compete for their spot in the rotation.

Raiders Coach Josh McDaniels believes that with a season under his belt, White is fit for the challenge.

"Again, he's a guy heading into his second camp," McDaniels told reporters Saturday. "I'd say he's more comfortable, more familiar with what we're doing. I think Z is a really physical guy. His strength and some of the things that he's excited to do probably won't take place until we have shoulder pads on and we're able to do some of those types of things.

"That's what he excelled at in college and that's what we saw from him last year, too. So, like I said, he's a year further ahead. He knows what to expect, understands what's being asked of him now. And we're excited for him and those other guys who are going into their second year to have an opportunity to go out there and play here in the month of August."

The Raiders selected White in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

As the starting running back for Georgia, he helped lead the Bulldogs to a national title in 2022.

White rushed for only 70 yards on 17 attempts in 14 games last season.

The Silver and Black open the preseason by hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. PDT.
