Raiders Add Another Patriot: WR Jakobi Meyers

HENDERSON, Nev.--Las Vegas Raiders General Manager Dave Ziegler and Coach Josh McDaniels have wasted no time in adding new players to a roster void of elite talent in many places.

After adding their quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, they signed safety Marcus Epps and cornerback Brandon Facyson. They then took an interesting direction.

They agreed on a deal with New England Patriot wide receiver Jakobi Meyers.

Sources close to the negotiation tell us that the deal is for three years with a maximum value of $33 million, of which $21 million is guaranteed.

The Raiders are not done. We have learned that they are discussing terms with an offensive lineman and a defensive back, and trying to get deals done at those spots. The Raiders are estimated at just under $11 million left in salary cap space.

One NFL Executive told me moments ago: "They (Raiders) are active but very calculated. Dave isn't in a frenzy, he is a controlled guy, people know this regime isn't over-spending."

Raider royalty, Rich Gannon, heralded the signing. He said: "They already have Davante Adams and Hunter Renfrow. This really adds another piece to the puzzle for their newly acquired quarterback Jimmy Garopollo."

Gannon added: "Josh McDaniels has always liked players who have a history with the system and that have been trained and developed in a program that he feels has helped develop the player. The entire player, and I think coming from the (New England) Patriots, where Josh worked for Bill Belichick, is an attractive player."

The 2023 NFL Draft will go from April 27-29 and be held at Union Station in Kansas City, Mo.

March 13-15 is the free agent negotiation period. During that time, starting at 12 p.m. EDT on March 13 and ending at 3:59:59 p.m. EDT on March 15, clubs are permitted to contact and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2022 Player Contracts at 4 p.m EDT on March 15.

The 2023 NFL Year and Free Agency period begins at 4 p.m. EDT on March 15. The Raiders are expected to be significant players in the free-agent market this season.
