In this story:

HENDERSON, Nev.--I first met Trae Waynes in 2009; over the next 14 years, I had a front-row seat to watching him go from a great high school football player to a multimillionaire, a husband, a father, and then to retire from his dream of playing in the National Football League and starring.

Waynes was a star for many, but don't tell him that. He, never one to seek the spotlight, finds his identity in his family and who he is as a man, not his talent.

He loved and enjoyed the game, but it never defined him. A player for many years, he had plenty of chances to go one-on-one with Davante Adams when he played for the Green Bay Packers and Waynes as the 11th overall selection of the Minnesota Vikings.

Not many have succeeded against Adams, but Waynes had more than others.

Not one fueled by ego, Waynes has nothing but respect for Adams.

While fans respect Adams as a player they watch on television, Waynes respects him as a man he competed with on every play.

Adams is the best in the NFL for a reason.

In our latest episode of the Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast, I spoke with Waynes about the greatness of Davante Adams, developing young defensive backs, and much more. You can watch the entire podcast below:

Adams' greatness is unparalleled. I believe he is the best in the NFL, but his greatness that can't be questioned.

Adams has consistently been one of the most productive wide receivers since joining the NFL, ranking in the top 10 in catches, receiving yards and touchdowns since 2015.

His ability to make catches in traffic and create big plays in crunch time makes him one of the most reliable targets in the offense. Adams can also positively impact the field with his leadership qualities, as he was recently selected as a Las Vegas Raiders team captain.

His tremendous work ethic, his skill as a wide receiver, and his commitment to excellence on and off the field are just a few of the reasons why Adams has become one of the best players in the NFL.

The Raiders' offseason workout schedule is as follows:

OTA Offseason workouts: May 22-23, May 25, May 31-June 2, June 12-15

Mandatory Minicamp: June 6-8
