In addition, I asked Coach Josh McDaniels if he is happy with how the veterans are taking ownership and setting the standard of expectation.
"Yeah," McDaniels said. "Again, it's their standard. It doesn't matter what we talk about in the meeting room, or what I want it to be. At the end of the day, we're trying to hold a standard. But at the end of the day, they are the ones that are going to own it on the field. I think we have great leadership. They've done a fantastic job of trying to get everybody to play up to that standard and we'll see if we can meet it today."
Safety Tre'Von Moehrig discussed the players demanding more of each other have a slow start yesterday.
"We just came out with some more energy," Moehrig said. "We talked about it in the meetings the night before and just came out and decided that we were going to come out with more energy and help us play faster, and I think we did a pretty good job of that today."
Veteran free agent defensive tackle John Jenkins has significantly impacted this Silver and Black team. His defensive line room has a nice mix of veterans and young players, and he spoke about what he sees in that room.
"Oh man, hungry, hungry individuals" Jenkins said. "Bilal Nichols, I remember when he came in from University of Delaware, watching him grow. Adam Butler, we were in Miami together. So, I already had a relationship with those two guys. And then coming in, Maxx [Crosby], Matt [Matthew Butler], Neil [Farrell], Malcolm [Koonce], everybody's growing man, Jerry [Tillery]. It's a beautiful thing to see a cohesive group, and everybody is just finding their niche and getting better."
The Silver and Black return to preseason action when they play the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 9 p.m. EDT/6 p.m. PDT.
