Raiders' Release Wide Receiver Renfrow

The Las Vegas Raiders have released fan favorite Hunter "Third and" Renfrow.

The Las Vegas Raiders are moving on from wide receiver Hunter Renfrow.

The man nicknamed "Third and Renfrow" for his ability to get open and make plays, is expected to rejoin former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr in New Orleans.

The fifth-round (No. 149 overall) pick out of Clemson in 2019 had his best season by far in 2021, when he made 103 receptions for 1038 yards.

That season, the Raiders were decimated by injuries, and the Silver and Black essentially had nowhere else to throw.

After signing a lucrative extension following that season, he struggled in the two subsequent seasons, with only 36 receptions in 2022 and 25 in 2023.

Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network: "The #Raiders will release WR Hunter Renfrow when the new league year begins later today, source said, as he was to count $13.7M against the cap. Renfrow, along with QB Jimmy Garoppolo, will both be free agents."

After a frustrating 2022 season, Renfrow said: "Yeah, it was a long season. And so, yeah, I just got home. The last two summers I stayed out here, this summer I went back home and just got back to the fundamentals, back to the basics, back to why you love the game. And the biggest thing for me that I learned through all of it was just to control what I can control.

"And I think getting pulled in a lot of different directions and expectations, and unnecessary ones I put on myself, and just to go out there and have a great day and have a great practice and take it one day at a time, one rep at a time, one route at a time and have that kind of singular mindset. And then let everything else take care of what's going to happen next. And so, that's really what I've taken from that.”

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
