Little did quarterback Carson Wentz know when the NFL schedule was released back in May how thankful he would be that the Los Angeles Rams had their bye in Week 10.

But after signing with the Rams last Wednesday, Wentz had one of the most chaotic weeks of his life, which, luckily for him, didn't include having to prepare for an NFL game this past Sunday.

Quarterback Carson Wentz has signed with the Los Angeles Rams.

Quarterback Carson Wentz has signed with the Los Angeles Rams.

In his introductory meeting with the media, Wentz revealed that between signing with the Rams last Wednesday and trying to prepare to back up Matthew Stafford this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, his wife gave birth to the couple's third child.

"Things happened really quickly last week. I don't know if anybody knows, but we had a baby last Friday too," Wentz said

"I came down here on Wednesday, [took a] physical ... signed ... motored back home ... by the grace of God my wife went into labor Thursday ... had our third baby girl on Friday and turned right around on Sunday. So timing was great, though, I got to be there. It's such a blessing. So it's been a whirlwind trying to learn this playbook, learn this area, really learn everything."

For the time being, Wentz will back up the aforementioned Stafford, who is expected to return from a right thumb injury that forced him to miss the team's Week 9 game against the Green Bay Packers. Brett Rypien started that game, with the Rams ultimately losing 20-3.

During their bye week, the Rams released Rypien and signed Wentz. For as much as Wentz has struggled over the last three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and Washington Commanders, most would agree that he's probably a better option to start than Rypien.

And while the Rams may hope that Stafford plays for the entirety of their eight remaining games, he has struggled to stay healthy over the last two seasons.

So it's entirely possible that a chance to revive his career playing under McVay and with receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nakua presents itself over for Wentz over the final two months of the season.
