Following a mixed performance when thrust into action for the Los Angeles Rams in 2022, cornerback Derion Kendrick now readies himself for his second year with the team. In light of this, defensive coordinator Raheem Morris maintains an unwavering stance against imposing limitations, acknowledging that Kendrick's journey as a 2022 sixth-round pick is still in its early stages, leaving room to determine his potential to preform at the highest level.

"I don't want to set a ceiling for him," Morris said. "I don't want to set a bar for him. I think we don't know yet. I'm looking forward to seeing it.''

During the 2022 NFL draft, when the Rams selected Kendrick in the sixth round, there were no immediate expectations for him to assume a starting role. With players like Jalen Ramsey, Troy Hill, and David Long Jr. ahead of him on the depth chart, Kendrick was anticipated to have a period of adjustment before being thrust into a starting position.

Despite initial expectations, Kendrick was pushed into action due to injuries, ultimately making six starts and appearing in 15 games for the Rams in 2022. As a first-year cornerback, he collected 43 tackles and recorded four pass breakups throughout his rookie campaign.

Ramsey is now gone; there are snaps available. As Kendrick prepares for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on him as he hopes to contribute to the Rams' defense.

Said Morris to reporters: "You talk about these rookies and they get these opportunities to play in the National Football League very early. There's going to be ebbs and flows and he certainly had his fair share, but again, you guys remember ... having the ability to get excited about (Kendrick) when Jalen was out."
