Rams Trade Jalen Ramsey, Leonard Floyd & Allen Robinson? Cap Space Impact

The Los Angeles Rams are close to cutting ties with cornerback Jalen Ramsey, outside linebacker Leonard Floyd and receiver Allen Robinson - but how would these moves alter the team's salary cap heading into free agency?

Just over a year removed from winning the Super Bowl, the Los Angeles Rams look to be entering a transitional period.

A disappointing 5-12 season set the stage for a critical offseason in Los Angeles, and it begin on a high note, as coach Sean McVay spurned retirement for another year on the sidelines.

But it's largely been downhill since, as the Rams and All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner mutually parted ways weeks ago ... and three more key players aren't far behind.

Rams Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey is reportedly "very likely" to be traded - while the team is seeking a split from outside linebacker Leonard Floyd and receiver Allen Robinson has been granted permission to seek a trade.

The mass exodus has largely been sparked by Los Angeles desperately needing salary cap relief, as it currently sits some $15.39 million on the wrong side of the line.

So, how would trading Ramsey, Floyd, and Robinson before June 1 impact that number? Here's the answer, per Over the Cap.

Trading Ramsey would result in saving $5.6 million in cap space but comes with $19.6 million in dead money.

Similarly, trading Floyd would save only $3 million but incurs $19 million in dead cap. The same is true if Los Angeles were to release Floyd, which is reportedly what will happen if a trade partner can't be found.

A trade of Robinson would save $6.85 million but results in $11.2 million in dead cap.

In total, this trio of moves opens up $15.45 million - just enough to give the Rams positive cap space but would still leave plenty of work to be done in order to be able to sign a draft class and fill out a roster.

Further, Los Angeles would carry $49.8 million in dead money from those three players alone to not play next season ... which is over three times the amount of money saved.

But ultimately, the Rams have to do what's necessary ... and the Super Bowl trophy has never seemed so expensive.
