Could Rams Cobie Durant Be NFL's Best Slot CB in 2023?

In a season where not much went right for the Los Angeles Rams, rookie cornerback Cobie Durant was a much-needed bright spot.

It took a while for the fourth-round pick to break his way into the lineup, but he put on an impressive performance once he did. In all, Durant finished his rookie season with 22 tackles, five passes defended and three interceptions, with one of them going for a pick-six.

Durant lined up in the slot for the vast majority of his snaps, and not just that, but he excelled there. He allowed a passer rating of 48.4 in 104 slot coverage snaps, which was the lowest in the entire league according to Pro Football Focus.

"Durant started off his career on the right foot in Los Angeles last season as a rookie," PFF writes. "The 2022 fourth-round pick played just 281 snaps on the season, but 258 of those snaps came in the last six weeks. Primarily working from the slot, Durant posted a 74.3 coverage grade."

Coming into Year 2, Durant will have a much greater role to play for the Rams. With the Rams trading star corner Jalen Ramsey to the Miami Dolphins this offseason, Durant must step up to help replace his production and leadership.

Speaking of Ramsey, he also landed on the list at No. 10. In 136 slot coverage snaps, the six-time Pro Bowler allowed a passer rating of 79.7.

Ramsey's departure also means that Durant may not get as many snaps in the slot as the Rams need him more on the outside. Seeing as Ramsey got plenty of slot snaps, though, maybe Durant could get the same treatment. Rest assured, Durant will make those snaps count.
