The New Orleans Saints are awaiting official word from Drew Brees on his intentions for the 2021 season, and while there is still no word on Brees' future, it is expected that the 20-year NFL veteran will retire.

As the team prepares to potentially move on from their starting quarterback of the last decade and a half, the Saints find themselves in the nucleus of quarterback rumors surrounding Jameis Winston and now Russell Wilson.

After 9 years and a Super Bowl title in Seattle, it appears Russell Wilson's future with the Seahawks could be coming to an end. This morning multiple reports broke that Wilson's representatives have broached potential trade destinations that include the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders, and New Orleans Saints. And Though Wilson's camp has not demanded a trade, some believe a deal is on the horizon.

On top of the trade rumors, The Athletic released an article on the Wilson-Seahawks rift that has been brewing throughout the 2020 NFL Season.  The story references multiple incidents including when Wilson "stormed out" a meeting after his ideas and suggestions were "dismissed" by the Seahawks.

Wilson publicly voiced his displeasure with the franchise shortly after being named the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year. The Super Bowl winning quarterback went on to say in a Zoom call with Seattle media that he is "frustrated with getting hit too much."

Russell Wilson grew up idolizing Drew Brees, partly because of his similar size, stature, former short-stops, and highly competitive. The players maintain a good relationship. A year ago, Wilson surrendered his Pro-Bowl start to allow Brees to open the game. With that in mind, would Wilson becoming the Brees' heir be a befitting move?

Realistically, New Orleans cannot compare with the draft capital the Dolphins or Jets could use to make a deal for Wilson.  Still, the ball is in Wilson's hands because of his contract's no-trade clause.  He must approve any trade request (s) and waive the clause, thus leaving him the negotiating power.

Will the elusive and dangerous Russell Wilson land in New Orleans this summer? Only time will tell. Buckle up Who Dat Nation.  The rumors are swirling and will continue to keep flying until we know the next field general in the Big Easy.
