Seahawks Most Desperate Position Group Per Mike Macdonald

If we can take just one thing away from new coach Mike Macdonald's time at the NFL Owners Meeting in Orlando, it's that he knows where his Seattle Seahawks team needs the most improvement. And it's not on his defense.

It's the offensive line, and specifically the interior.

“It’s a work in progress,” Macdonald said during breakfast with reporters at the Ritz-Carlton. “We’re not done by any stretch of the imagination. There’s some great competition going to happen in that room, and we expect high-level play this year from those guys.

"We’re at work at it. We’re not hitting the panic button or anything like that; we don’t play until September. A lot of time to figure out who the right guys are and the right opportunities to make the team the best we can.”

Three of the top five o-linemen have either signed elsewhere or soon will. Left guard Damien Lewis signed a four-year deal in Carolina, center Evan Brown signed a one-year contract in Arizona and right guard Phil Hayes is a free agent and not expected to return to the Seahawks.

Against those losses, Seattle signed Tremayne Anchrum Jr., who is not starting material and will provide depth for those in front of him and added center Nick Harris, who will most likely compete with Olu Oluwatimi for the starting job.

But all is not lost as we approach the 2024 NFL Draft. This is an extremely deep offensive line class and many draft gurus have 12 interior offensive linemen in the top 100 players available. So the Seahawks could still improve the position group before the start of camp.
