Seattle Seahawks' Geno Smith on Ryan Grubb Scheme: 'Everything's Brand New!'

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith has a new offensive coordinator in Ryan Grubb and has revealed that everything about the offensive scheme is different.

The Seattle Seahawks have undergone change this offseason, with quarterback Geno Smith now having a new person in his ear as Ryan Grubb takes over the offense from Shane Waldron.

Sometimes, a new offensive coordinator might leave some of the terminology or concepts from the old system in place to ease the transition for the offense. But not Grubb.

For Smith, he has revealed that everything about Grubb's system is different. But he did state that despite all the changes, things so far are going well for the unit.

“Everything’s brand new,” Smith told the media. “It’s all new terminology, there’s going to be new protections, everything’s going to be new. It’s a fresh start as far as learning an offense for all of us, so things are new but it's football. It’s terminology, we’re picking it up, I think guys are doing a great job. Sam [Howell] and I have been going over these things and so far so good.”

With the Seahawks now having a completely new offensive scheme under Grubb, the thought is that his air raid offense from Washington, which served them well as they reached the National Championship game last season, will be coming to Seattle.

While it can't be completely brought over to the NFL, there will no doubt be similarities to it and Smith admitted to watching a lot of Washington film from last year to get an understanding of how Grubb's offense operates.

"Been watching a lot of Huskie film," Geno said with a smile.

The Seahawks have an abundance of weapons for Grubb to utilize in his new scheme with Geno leading it all. Running backs Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet provide a good one-two punch out of the backfield.

Receivers D.K. Metcalf, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Tyler Lockett can be devastating if given the chance and Noah Fant as the team's TE1 also has shown what he is capable of.

But for now, the Seahawks' offense is in the classroom, getting to know their new system as they get ready to unleash it once training camp begins.
