How Bears' Coby Bryant Injury Affects Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks won't have to face Coby Bryant when the Chicago Bears come to town this season, but they still have consequences from the injury.

Seattle Seahawks fans are disappointed after learning of some news coming out of Chicago Bears training camp.

Former Seahawks defensive back Coby Bryant, who signed with the Bears during the offseason on a three-year, $40 million deal, underwent surgery on his knee that will likely keep him out for the entire season.

Initial signs show that Bryant would likely only miss 8-10 weeks, keeping him with a chance to play against the Seahawks on Monday Night Football on Nov. 2. This news should keep him out for that game and beyond.

Coby Bryant Won't Play in Bears vs. Seahawks

Bryant spent the last four seasons with the Seahawks after being selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Cincinnati. He worked hard during his tenure in Seattle, which awarded him with a Super Bowl ring this past season and an expensive three-year, $40 million contract with Chicago.

Bryant was one of the top defensive backs in free agency, and the Seahawks wanted to keep him, but they felt they could not match the money the Bears were willing to give. Once he left for the Bears, he stated how excited he was to play against the Seahawks in his first season with Chicago.

“We actually play Seattle this year, in Seattle, so they better be ready for me, for sure,” Bryant told Kay Adams back in March on the Up & Adams show.

How Coby Bryant Injury Hurts Seahawks

Even though Bryant no longer wears the Seahawks uniform, his absence for the 2026 campaign will affect Seattle's future. The Seahawks were projected to get a compensatory draft pick for losing Bryant in free agency, and it was projected to be around a sixth-round pick, according to Over the Cap.

Bryant's injury, which will keep him out for the season, likely means that his value will slip into the seventh round or possibly be erased altogether.

That being said, the team still has seven selections for the 2027 NFL draft, and they will likely have other compensatory picks from their other free agents who moved on. They also will be awarded an additional third-round pick for assistant general manager Nolan Teasley's hiring by the Minnesota Vikings. Boye Mafe, who signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, will likely fetch a fourth-round pick, while Kenneth Walker III and Riq Woolen could help the Seahawks land a pair of fifth-round picks.
